An unknown illness kills thousands of livestock in White Nile state
Altaghyeer: White Nile
The former president of White Nile herders’ federation Abdelrahman Alsiddig confirmed the mortality of thousands of livestock heads which graze in South Sudan after acquiring an unknown disease.
More than 20 million heads of pastoralist’s livestock graze between White Nile and South Sudan’s border in UM Jalalah and Alquik areas during the dry season (summer) prior to heading back to their owners in White Nile.
Alsiddig warned of repercussions of the unknown illness on livestock exports and locally consumed meat due to its rapid transmission between animals and high contagious pattern. And he said they reported to federal authorities which are yet to respond.
