The Sudanese army closed all roads leading to its headquarters in Khartoum since Sunday’s night with barbed wire and traffic signs, coinciding with the cabinet declaration .
The streets of downtown the city witnessed a traffic jam that prompted vehicle drivers to take alternative routes.
On a Facebook post the traffic police in Khartoum instructed vehicle drivers to pass through the Al-Mak Nimer Bridge, which connects the center of the capital to Khartoum Bahri.
It called on those coming from Khartoum Bahri to Khartoum to cross the Blue Nile Bridge or the Armed Forces Bridge in the Koper area.
It also directed those coming to downtown the city to take alternative roads, such as (Al-Qasr) and (Ali Abdullatif) streets.
The Army General Command building is located in the heart of the capital, Khartoum, near major bridges connecting the three cities of the capital (Khartoum, Bahri, and Omdurman).
The General Command was associated with two important events in the Sudanese revolution, as the revolution’s arrival to its yard on April 6, 2019, contributed to the overthrow of al-Bashir.
Months later, on June 30 of the same year, they were dispersed in a fatal way that led to the death of more than 130 people.
Citizens in the Sudanese capital do not hide their complaint about the constant closure of driving roads, which leads to great difficulties in movement.
On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok exempted all his cabinet ministers and assigned them to conduct the affairs of ministries until the formation of the new government.
After Sunday’s meeting, the “Council of Transitional Period Partners” confirmed that it agreed to declare the expected government formation on Monday. Except for the Ministry of Education, about which consultations are still taking place.
The Council also set a date for tomorrow, Tuesday, to review the government’s program for everyone to agree on, before signing it, so that the new government will commit to implementing it
