Government authorities in North Kordofan state on Monday decided to cease all types of unlawful conscription and granting of military ranks in all parts of the state with penalties imposed on offenders.
The rebel movements signatory to the Juba Peace Agreement stand awaiting implementation of the security arrangements clause before dissolving into the National Army.
North Kordofan governor, Khaled Mustafa Adam, chaired a joint meeting between the State Government and the State Security Committee, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
Movements signatory to the agreement denied allegations of granting military ranks and identities in anticipation of the security arrangements.
They indicated that the matter could either be an irresponsible conduct by individuals, or attempts of forgery intended to tarnish the rebel movements’ image.
At the beginning of the meeting, the State Security Committee reviewed the security and criminal situation in the state, attributing the stability in the state to close coordination between all security apparatuses in implementing set out security plans.
Al-Obeid and a number of cities in the state witnessed violent protests accompanied by robbery, in February, which led to the imposition of a state of emergency and a curfew in the state.
The Committee reviewed the security plan during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, as well as security arrangements for the fall and agricultural season.
The Committee also referred to security issues overlapping with the state of South Kordofan.
