Sisi Declares State of Emergency in Egypt

 

Egyptian authorities declared a three-month state of emergency in all governorates of the country, giving authority to the army and police to combat terrorism and maintain security.

Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, announced the imposition of a state of emergency in all governorates of the country for a period of three months.

According to official news, the decision was taken due to security and health measures.

The decision stipulates that “The armed forces and the police shall take necessary measures to confront the dangers of terrorism, its financing, maintain the country’s security, protect public and private property…”, the decision read.

“…and authorize the Prime Minister with regard to the powers of the President of the Republic stipulated in the Emergency Law, while imposing prison sentences for Violators of orders issued by the head of state.”

221570 confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been recorded in Egypt up-to-date, including 12,998 deaths.
