Public Prosecution in Sudan refers former governor, security officers to the court

On Sunday, the Public Prosecution in Sudan referred a number of reports to the court, including case file belonging to one of the martyrs of the Sudanese revolution, one in which the brother of ousted President Omar al-Bashir is accused, and a third in which a leading figure of the former regime is accused.

On Sunday, the Public Prosecution Office in Sudan announced the referral of the report «No. 5411/2019» concerning the martyr Mahjoub al-Taj, in “11” accusations under articles “21, 130, 186” of the Criminal Code were leveled against a brigadier, colonel, lieutenant colonel, and captain Security.

A medical student at Al-Razi College, al-Taj was killed by ousted president’s Omar al-Bashir’s security forces while defending his fellow university colleagues during the December revolution protests.

The authorities had arrested the main suspects in the incident, and the General Intelligence Service had lifted the immunity of officers accused, along with others, in the killing of Mahjoub.

A statement from the Public Prosecution also indicated the referral of report «No. 67/2020 AD», in which the brother of the ousted president Ali al-Bashir, and others, were accused under articles “88, 89, 181” of the Criminal Code and a number of other articles, and charged with wasting “27” million dollars.

The financial prosecution sub-committee had begun an investigation with ali Al-Bashir concerning the complaint accusing him of defrauding the Sudapet company and buying a private oil well of his.

Extra Cases and Rumors Quashed

On the same level, the Public Prosecution referred report «No. “7/ 2021 AD» under Articles “88, 89, 181” of the Criminal Code and a number of other articles to the court as well.

The accused in that report was the governor of South Darfur during the former regime’s time, Adam al-Faki, on charges related to financial abuses.

The court determined the 23rd of the current month the date for the beginning of the hearings in the communication.

In another context, the Public Prosecution denied what was recently reported in some social media about the expulsion of the public prosecutor overseeing the body responsible for supervising the cases pertaining to the revolution’s martyrs.

The Public Prosecution affirmed that everything stated in these social media circles is completely untrue, and that the aforementioned prosecutors are still conducting investigations and into the martyrs reports.

 The prosecution also noted that the public prosecutor in charge has been continuously meetings with them in order to push work forward and refer the files to the competent courts.
