An official in Sennar state government stated that most of the irrigated projects have cultivated their lands, leaving little for Sorghum.

Khartoum: AlTaghyeer

The government of Sennar State in central Sudan has warned of an expected gap in the sorghum crop, due to low rainfall.

A state government official explained that the cultivated land does not exceed half of the target area for this year.

Asmaa Osman, the director of the State’s Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, expressed her fear of low rainfall which, she said, did not allow cultivated lands to exceed 49% of the target area for the current year.

During the agricultural season report for this year, in both rainy and irrigated parts, Osman indicated that the ministry is working to fill an expected gap in the sorghum crop that can be planted until the beginning of next September.

The meeting also reviewed an integrated report on the autumn emergency presented by the Director General of Infrastructure Abdullah Mohamed Adam.

The report dealt with the latest developments in the situation regarding this fall.
