Today, the trial of “11” members of al-Bashir’s security apparatus, accused of killing medical student Mahjoub al-Taj, will resume.

Khartoum: AlTaghyeer

The eighth session of the trial of 11 members of the ousted security apparatus, accused of killing the martyr Mahjoub al-Taj Mahjoub, will be held today Monday.

The court had adjourned the August 30 session for a week due to electricity cuts.

The indictment requested the postponement of the hearing, due to the fact that its evidence is based mainly on a “video” that requires a projector screen to be played, which was not available due to the power outages.

The hearings are taking place before Judge Zuhair Babiker Abdel Razek, in al-Dim east.

Today’s session will be devoted to the interrogation of the third detective, Muhammad Ibrahim, by the Public Prosecution office first, as a representative of the public right, and then he will be interrogated by the indictment panel for the private right.

After that, the detective will be examined by the defendants’ defense, and then re-interrogated by the Public Prosecution Office and the indictment panel for the private right.

It is noteworthy that the case of Mahjoub al-Taj Mahjoub was referred to in communication No. 5411 of 2019 under articles 130 (premeditated murder) and 186 (crimes against humanity) coupled with article 21 (accessory to crime).

Mahjoub – 20 at the time of his death – a medical student at Al-Razi University, was murdered when officers and members of the disbanded security apparatus arrested and beat him during their raid on Al-Razi University and assaulted its students on January 24, 2019.

Mahjoub succumbed to his injuries after having receiving fatal blows to the head while defending his female colleagues against the security forces.

In a previous session, the court issued a decision to allow the martyr’s mother, Wedad Othman, to attend and follow up on court sessions on humanitarian grounds, considering her one of the members of the private right.

Earlier, the court had ordered not to allow her to attend the sessions due to her being declared emotionally unfit during the interrogation of the tenth defendant.

The tenth defendant admitted that he was the one who had struck Mahjoub twice in the face and head and caused him to fall to the ground unconscious.
