The Khartoum State Health Insurance Authority described the covering of sanitary pads into the service packages provided to its clients in the capital, as a necessary and urgent matter, and not a luxury.

The Health Insurance Authority in Khartoum State announced the addition of sanitary pads for women, under the coverage of the insurance umbrella.
The economic crisis and the rise in prices affected basic commodities, including sanitary pads, which became unaffordable for a number of women.
In a press conference on Monday, the authority said that its decision is among its women’s health priorities, and in line with the strategies of the United Nations in providing a distinguished and sensitive service for women and children.
The authority approved the financing of sanitary pads to be among the packages provided through health insurance in various Shawamekh pharmacies as a first stage.
It also decided that the insurance will pay half the value of the pads in its pharmacies to those insured in the state of Khartoum, according to specific mechanisms and on a monthly basis.
Several initiatives were active in the media to protest against the high price of sanitary pads, which had exceeded 400 pounds in price.
