Business between Sudan and Romanian Export-Import Bank resumes

The Romanian Export-Import Bank has announced that Sudan has resumed banking transactions with the bank in a number of fields.

The Director General of the Romanian Export-Import Bank, Corina Violopez, announced the return of the business dealing between the bank and Sudan in the fields of export and import, and the financing of Romanian investments in Sudan.

A number of major Romanian companies affirmed their desire to invest in Sudan, with emphasis on the fields of agricultural machinery and technology, energy/renewable energy, food and services, infrastructure, and various industries.

On Sunday the Sudanese-Romanian Economic Forum was held in Khartoum via video conference technology, with the participation of “46” major companies from the two countries.

The meeting was addressed by a representative of the President of the Employers Association, Secretary of External Relations, Dr. Abdel Halim Issa Teman, Director of External Relations of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Edward Kostin, President of the Federation of Bilateral Chambers of Commerce in Romania Dr. Nasti Flodio, President of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sto Klosa, Chargé d’Affairs of the Romanian Embassy Marius Nculescu, Secretary of the Youth Business Secretariat Ahmed Mohamed El-Sayed, and Vice President of the Sudanese-Romanian Friendship Association Osama Abu Qurja.

Dr. Abdel Halim explained that the announcement made by the Director of the Romanian Export-Import Bank, signaling the resumption of business with Sudan, comes within the framework of the Union’s external efforts to resume banking transactions with the countries of the world.

He said that the step provides a wide opportunity for establishing investment partnerships with Romania.

The Secretary of External Relations added that the forum was a great success, and witnessed joint understandings between Sudanese and Romanian companies.

He stated that he witnessed the participation of Romanian companies with previous experience of investing in Sudan’s energy and oil exploration fields, and the construction of the Port Sudan refinery and tree depots.

Abdel Halim noted that the forum agreed on the importance of cooperation, exchange of experiences, transfer of technology, and the establishment of investment partnerships.

It is noteworthy that the forum witnessed the participation of major Sudanese companies, including Kenana Sugar Company, the Sudanese Thermal Generation Company, the Investment Authority of the Social Security Fund, the Gum Arabic Company, the Sudanese Saudi Bank, the Sudanese-Romanian Friendship Association, and representatives from trade, industry, agriculture, animal production, transport, small industries, and crafts.
