Khartoum and Juba agreed to open the crossings between the two countries next October, at a time when Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok received a letter from South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit regarding the political situation in Sudan.

On Wednesday, Hamdok met with the delegation of the State of South Sudan, headed by the Adviser to the President of the Republic of South Sudan for Security Affairs, and the head of the South Sudan mediation team for the Sudan peace talks, Tut Galwak.

The delegation also included Minister of Investment Dhio Matuk, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maike Deng.

On the Sudanese side, the meeting was attended by Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Khaled Omar Youssef, and political advisor to the Prime Minister Yasser Arman.

The Prime Minister reiterated the transitional government’s readiness to implement the Juba Agreement for the peace of Sudan and to resolve all issues of the country.

He expressed his gratitude to the President of the State of South Sudan for his consideration of the current affairs in Sudan.

For his part, Galwak said that the meeting discussed the mechanisms for implementing the Juba Agreement, and the issues of crossings and borders between Sudan and the State of South Sudan.

In a press statement, the Adviser said that the meeting secured the opening of the crossings between the two countries in October.

This is in accordance with what was agreed upon between the two sides during Hamdok’s recent visit to South Sudan.
