The coordinators of the Omdurman Great Resistance Committees in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, called on all its to participate in the anti-coup July 17 demonstrations announced for next Sunday.
Sudan has witnessed continuous popular protests since the 2021 October 25th military coup d’état against the transitional civilian government to demand democratic transformation, civil rule, and to hold accountable those involved in killing protesters and committing violations.
Omdurman’s Grand Committees said in a press statement on Thursday that they had decided to go out on the 17th of July to continue the peaceful struggle, and to emphasize the “serious desire to uproot the putschist authority and bring it to its final resting place.”
The committees also described the processions as “the wind that precedes the storm of salvation.”
The committees also warned the putschist militias not to use violence against peaceful demonstrators, saying that they “will monitor and document all the crimes they commit, for justice is inevitably coming.”
A number of resistance committees in the capital, Khartoum, had ended sit-ins in the cities of Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman after the June 30 demonstrations, which were met with severe violence from the coup security forces.
