Autposy report for Imtidad victim says «torture» caused death
The Emergency Lawyers in Sudan announced that Mudathir Kamal, the 29 year old who died while under the Imtidad police custody, was tortured to death as per the autopsy report.
Khartoum: AlTaghyeer
According to the coroner’s report, which Mudathir’s family demanded before collecting their son’s body for burial, the 29 year old had died as a result of torture he endured during police custody.
Mudathir was arrested at around 4 AM last Tuesday by a motorist who claimed to be a police man, who handcuffed him and took him to the Imtidad precinct, where he was last seen alive.
He was arrested at the Sitteen street, which falls way beyond the jurisdiction of the Imtidad police.
His family was informed of their son’s death by the precinct itself, with one officer telling Mudathir’s father that his son had died of a drug overdose.
A cousin of Mudathir’s, speaking to AlTaghyeer, said that the Imtidad police tried to deliver the body to another police station al-Sahafa, with the latter refusing to let the body in due to torture marks being visible on the deceased.
“Mudathir Kamal’s family received his body accompanied by the final autopsy report, announcing that the cause of death was a direct result of torture and beating with a sharp object during his detention inside the police station,” the emergency lawyers’ statement read.
The victim’s family had refused to collect their son’s body after finding out that samples of his blood and urine were sent to the lab for testing.
The family suspected that this would be an attempt to fortify the police’s claim of their son having died due to a drug overdose.
A judicial source revealed to AlTaghyeer that the result of the toxicology report the samples were taken for, requested by the director, rank major, of the Imtidad Police Department, confirmed the no lethal amount of drugs was found in the deceased’s system.
The result comes one week after the samples were taken, which is five days more than the 48-hour waiting period for standard toxicology reports.
