The competition was restricted to four names, all who work in media, and they were: Badriyah Abdel Hafiz, Afaf al-Amin, Salma Sayid, and Atifah Adil.
All the women in the race for the female representative seat have previously worked in Al-Merrikh owned newspapers, as well as other sports newspapers/media.
This competition for the women’s seat comes in light of an electoral race taking place for the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors at Al-Merrkih Club, with fierce competition between five candidates in the elections scheduled for the thirtieth of next December.
The candidates are Ayman Mubaak al-Khidr, Hazim Mustafa Mohammed, Al-Hafiz Muhammad Adam Ahmed, Khaled Muhammad Hassan Al-Khalifa and Mustafa Mahmoud Dafa’Allah.
A member of the al-Merrikh club’s general assembly, Marwan Hasab al-Rasoul, had filed an appeal with the al-Merrikh elections committee against the candidacy of Ayman Mubarak, Othman al-Amin al-Sheikh, and al-Rashid Hashem.
The appeal was based, according to Hasab al-Rasoul, on the fact that the trio had not even been members for more than a year, referring to the membership statements from 2019 to 2022.
On Thursday, the elections committee received three new appeals against candidates for the club’s board of directors.
