Khartoum, Altaghyeer: Sara Taj Alsir
Alsayad was arrested along with 8 other revolutionaries in 2022 on charges of torturing, raping and killing an intelligence sergeant, Mirghani Aljaili, during one of the protest marches against the military junta.
On Monday trial session the prosecution team told the court that it has failed to produce witnesses on the ground that two of them were travelling outside the capital Khartoum and that the phones of the other four were switched off.
The judge Jamal Mamoon Salih gave the prosecution one week time to prepare their witnesses.
The court was adjourned last week to today’s (Monday) due to absence of the initial judge, the witnesses and defendants.
During the last session the family of the deceased submitted a request before the court, requesting to abdicate their right to blood money and for dropping the execution.
Member of the defense team Muataz Almadani said the prosecution demand to bring Central Khartoum prosecution to help them and the grace period given to them mean procrastination through fabrication and desperate attempts to prolong the defendants detention.
Altaghyeer has noticed that Alsayad’s left eye was injured. Asking his father about the cause he said that one of the persons sharing the cell with them is accused of murder and that it was him who has physically attacked him while he was asleep.
He said his son receives no medical attention that he badly needs and the prison authorities asked the family to bring him pain killers.
Alsayad, according to his family, suffers from his wounds as a result of bullet fragments and of a broken arm.
Relatives of the defendants complain that their sons who are accused of killing the intelligence officer Mirghani Aljaili are detained in unacceptable conditions.
The relatives also say they themselves are being subjected to all types of mistreatment when they ask permission to visit the detainees.
