The new measures, which were imposed as of Saturday June 10, have cancelled standing orders allowing Sudanese women, children under 16 and males aged 50+ to enter Egyptian territories even if they do not possess valid passports document.

According to the new measures, Sudanese wishing to enter Egypt have to, upon filling an entry visa form, explain in details the amount of money in their possession, specify the relatives and connections in Egypt, the residence address back home in the Sudan as well as in Egypt.

Egyptian authorities used to allow 30 buses enter the country daily, each carrying about 50 passengers. The crowding crisis occurred as people had to wait for long hours to get their documents processed.

The sources said Egyptian authorities have also started organizing passengers wishing to obtain visa according to specific criteria such as a day for persons with special needs, another day for women and a third for children.

Over 200 thousand Sudanese are estimated to have crossed into Egypt since the outbreak of the fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in April 15th, 2023
