The Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) announced that its executive office will hold a meeting in Cairo, Egypt, on Monday and Tuesday, to discuss means to end the war and underlining root causes of the crisis.

In a statement on Sunday, FFC described the upcoming meeting as important, being the first direct gathering since outbreak of the war in April and the suffering it brought the Sudanese people in and outside the country.

“These challenges and variables dictated clear options; top of which is to end the war, to foil plans by the followers of the defunct regime seeking to convert the conflict into a full – fledged civil war and to restore the transitional civilian democratic rule” the FFC statement said.

The statement said the meeting will also discuss remedy of the war impacts on the citizens and rehabilitation of damages incurred, through a political process that will not exclude any one except those affiliated to the dissolved National Congress Party, its personalities and leaders.

The statement maintained that convening this historical meeting in Egypt’s soil and within its capital Cairo, is symbolic as it reaffirms the strong bonds linking Sudan and Egypt and their peoples.

The statement pointed to the keenness shown by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt to play a pivotal role, either within the context of the neighbouring and regional countries, or within the framework of the international community, that will contribute to ending the absurd war in Sudan and pave the way for restoring peace, security, stability and democratic rule in the Sudan.
