Sudan’s FFC calls for unifying international initiatives for ending the war, announces new political stand

The Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC), the main civilian pro-democracy alliance in Sudan, condemns gross violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum, the Sudan Army’s air bombardment and calls for unification of international initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis.

The FFC-Central Council held a two-day meeting in Cairo, Egypt, 24-25 July 2023, the first in person meeting since the outbreak of war between the Army and the RSF, where it drafted a political vision for ending the war and setting new basis for running the country.

The Centeral Council issued its final communique highlighting its vision for ending the war and rebuilding the new Sudanese state.

The communique condemned the gross human rights violations including killing, looting and forcibly occupying people’s houses committed by the RSF as well as the Sudanese Army’s air strikes and arbitrary arrest of Sudanese activists while okaying activities carried out by followers of the deposed regime.

The communique called for immediate halt of all violations, carrying out of independent investigation, bringing to justice criminals and providing reparation for victims.

The meeting called for naming the dissolved National Congress Party, and its leading figures, as a terrorist organization.

The meeting urged for lunching a political process that will end the war immediately, respond effectively to the humanitarian disaster created by the war situation and for protecting civilians in accordance with International Humanitarian Law. It added that all Sudanese civil forces opposed to the war should participate in this political process to the exception of the National Congress party and its leading figures.

The communique underlined the need for unifying all international efforts aimed at ending the war: The Saudi-USA initiative, the African Union road map, IGAD, and the Resolutions of the Neighboring Countries summit.

The meeting decided to set in post war emergency program for restoring the financial and economic institutions and reforming the economy in a way that would benefit the producers, realizing balanced development and mobilizing the national resources and international cooperation to utilize the country’s potentials.

The meeting affirmed in conclusion commitment to end the war, maintain unity and sovereignty of the country, establish an equitable and democratic government and a transitional justice.
