Shoukry described the current political situation in Sudan as “uncertain” saying it lacks specific political process for ending the fighting there.
The Egyptian FM was speaking at the first 2-day meeting of the Sudan’s neighbouring countries ministerial mechanism which was held in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, Sunday-Monday.
In July, Egypt hosted Sudan’s neighboring countries summit which discussed the consequences of the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The ministerial mechanism was an offshoot of this Summit.
Shoukry said the leaders of Sudan’s neighboring countries wanted the mechanism meeting to come out with practical proposals that solely targeted convincing the warring parties to immediately stop fighting.
The Egyptian FM called on the meeting to submit proposals on urgent response to the “crushing” humanitarian crisis that will guarantee delivery of assistance to those in need, swiftly and efficiently.
“We are not here for imposing any solutions or situations on any party” Shoukry said adding that the Sudanese people were never a party to the war or one of its causes.
