Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo ‘Hemedti’ on Sunday put forwards a proposal on an overall solution for the war in Sudan, with a new single army.

The RSF said it is open for a long-term ceasefire with the SAF.

The announcement was made following the arrival of SAF commander -in- chief Abdel Fattah Al Burhan in port Sudan Sunday evening, part of his first tour outside Khartoum since eruption of the war between the SAF and RSF on April15th.

The tour is expected to take him to Egypt and Saudi Arabia for talks aimed at putting an end for the current war in the Sudan.

Hemedti’s statement was published in X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday, detailing his opinion on resolving the crisis in Sudan.

The main points of his proposal stressed the following themes:

* The need for forging an agreement on a long-term ceasefire accompanied with the principles of an overall political solution that caters for uprooting the causes of the war in the Sudan.

* April 15th war should be the last one in Sudan.

* The government should be civilian-led democratic executive reached after a free and fair election at all levels enabling full people participation in and be able to hold accountable the executive.

* The formation of the civilian government should fairly and genuinely reflect all Sudanese regions, using to this end mechanisms or bases agreed upon by all.

* The best government for the Sudan is heterogeneous federal system, given the country’s diversity.

* The right approach for realising sustainable peace in Sudan is to end the structural violence practiced by the state against wide sectors in the country and the peripheries in particular.

* Peace does not mean just silencing the guns or assaults of the oppressive institutions against the people and their properties, it rather means ending known discrepancies in political participation and opting adquate sharing of wealth and opportunities.

* Engaging every possible largest political and social sector including parties, civil society organisations, stakeholders and women.

* The need for establishing a new national professional army bringing together all multiple armies.

* The need for countering hate speech and agreeing on a package of legal reforms.
