SPLM/North: No meeting between Burhan and Al Hilu in Asmara

The coup leader in Sudan Abdel Fattah ABurhan paid a short visit to the Eritrea capital Asmara during which he discussed with President Asias Aforqi bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of mutual concern.

A senior commander in the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North denied on Tuesday reports about a meeting between the coup leader in Sudan Abdel Fattah Al Burhan and the head of the SPLM/North’s Abdel Aziz Al Hilu in the Eritrean capital Asmara.

Sudan Tribune site reported on Monday that Burhan asked Al Hilu during talks in Asmara to fight besides the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in its war with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) pledging to implement a former agreement that stipulated enforcement of a secular constitution and building of a unfied national army.

The Movement’s official spokesperson, Jabir Komondan Komi, said in a statement that the chairman of the Movement did not meet Al Burhan neither in Asmara nor in any other place.

The statement stressed that the Movement is not part of the current fighting between the SAF and RSF.

Neither the coup government nor SAF issued an official comment on Asmara meeting.

Kordofan and the Blue Nile areas, where the Movement seek to promote its imfluence, witnessed military skirmishes between the SAF and the Movement following eruption of war between the former and the RSF in April 15th.
