FFC opposes formation of two governments in Sudan

The pro democracy political alliance Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) vowed to resist plans on dividing the Sudan, saying it would immediately contact the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the matter.

Khartoum: Altaghyeer

The FFC strongly rejected hint by Sudanese warring parties who intend to forme a government each in areas under its control.

The SAF and RSF are presently engaged in fierce fighting in Khartoum and other towns since April 15th, resulting in death of thousands and displacement of millions.

The SAF Commander-in-Chief, Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, is said to be planning to form a government in Port Sudan, Red Sea State capital to which the government institutions were moved in lieu of Khartoum. The RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo ‘Hemedti’ responded by saying he could also form a government in the areas under his control with Khartoum as its capital.

Seeds of Division

The FFC said in statement on Friday it was strongly concerned by hints coming from the warring parties on their intention to form a government each in the areas under their control. It described such a step as extremely dangerous entailing division of the country, deepening the conflict and plunging the nation into an all-inclusive civil war.

Since October 25, 2021 coup no party in Sudan is legally entitled to form any government, the FFC warned.

Measures for foiling division plans

The FFC announced it would take measures to counter plans aiming at dividing the country including immediate direct meeting with the SAF and RSF to urge them stop such steps “we will encourage both sides to sit for negotiations on ending the war and easing the catastrophic humanitarian situation” the FFC said.

The alliance said it would alert regional and FFC international partners on the dangerous track the war is taking now and urge them to play a positive role in ending the war.

“we will spare no effort to restore unity and safety of the country”, the FFC stressed.
