Sudan: National mechanism proposes ending the war, formation of emergency cabinet
The National Mechanism for Supporting Civilian Democratic Transition in Sudan has handed Al Burhan an initiative for ending the war and forming an emergency government.
Khartoum: Altaghyeer
The mechanism met Head of the coup Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al Burhan in the east Sudan city of Port Sudan, the new seat of the centeral goverment, on Tuesday.
The Mechanism includes prominent political figures and is led by former member of the Sovereign Council Ms Aisha Musa.
The rapporteur of the Mechanism, Aadil Al Mufti, said their initiative proposes a road map for facilitating a national consensus on ending the current fighting and the formation of an emergency government to shoulder national rehabilitation, safe delivery of humanitarian assistance to the war affected civilians particularly those in Khartoum and Darfur and to initiate development.
He said the Mechanism will hold meeting with the various political blocs, civil society organisations, Sufi sects and youth Resistance Committees in order to see how the emergency government could be formed.
The ongoing war erupted on April 15th between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces militias in the capital Khartoum and other towns.
Head of the Mechanism, Aisha Musa, resigned from the Sovereign Council before Al Burhan’s coup of October 2021 complaining the civilian component within the hybrid Council was sidelined in decision making. “I do not want to be part of a government administrated by a shadowy force” she said at the time without further elaborating on the matter.
