Over 3 million people in Sudan at risk of cholera, OCHA warns
The United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said more than 3.1 million people are estimated to be at risk of acute watery diarrhea and cholera in Sudan.

OCHA said in an update of cholera outbreak that more than 3.1 million people are estimated to be at risk of acute watery diarrhea and cholera in eight states in 13 localities between July and December 2023.
Sudan declared a cholera outbreak in Gedarif State late September, and in Khartoum and South Kordofan States in October.
Up to October 22, there were 1,618 suspected cases of cholera, including 67 deaths, in 22 localities of four States; Khartoum, Gadarif (east Sudan), Gezira (centeral) and South Kordofan (centeral western), according to the Sudan’s Ministry of Health.
OCHA said the International Coordination Group on Vaccine Provision (ICG) approved 1,576,448 doses of oral cholera vaccines for a campaign targeting persons older than one year in six localities of Gedaref.
The Ministry is finalizing a second application to the ICG for 692,710 doses of oral cholera vaccines for a campaign in Medani, Gezira State.
The ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has resulted in significant damage of the country’s infrastructure including 70% of health facilities in Khartoum, Darfur and Kordofan.
