Sudan’s Islamist Movement slams facilitators of Jeddah talks

The Sudanese Islamist Movement said in a statement on Wednesday that facilitators of the Jeddah talks between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) forced in issues that have no relations with the negotiations.

The Sudanese Islamist Movement has slammed the talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, between the SAF and RSF, accusing the facilitators of introducing irrelevant issues to the already agreed upon agendas of the negotiations.

The facilitators of the talks included Saudi Arabia, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) – representing the African Union – and United States of America.

The facilitators’ joint statement on Tuesday said both parties, SAF and RSF, have made commitments to rearrest prison escapees and fugitives, a reference to leaders of the Islamist Movement who fled from Kober Central Prison where they had been placed pending final verdict on a number of charges.

The Movement vowed to continue supporting the SAF in the “real negotiations field: the battlefield.”

“The irrelevant issues brought in by the facilitators will not distract us from our duty. We are focusing now on restoring the dignity of the Sudanese people and their land, and taking their revenge from the agents and mercenaries” the statement said.

The Islamist Movement is currently led by the former Minister for Foreign Affairs, one of the persons sanctioned by the US Treasury, Ali Karti who is accused by the RSF of igniting the current conflict in the Sudan.
