Chairman of the coup Sovereign Council cum army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued on Monday a constitutional decree relieving al-Tahir Abubuker Hajar from his post as member of the Council.

Relieving of Hajar, Head of Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance, came two weeks after firing of his colleague al-Hadi Edris who is head of Sudan Liberation Forces. They were both expelled for their stance against the ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) addition to their criticising of al-Burhan’s October 25, 2021 coup which toppled the transitional civilian government.

Hajar and Edris joined the Sovereign Council in February 2021 as representatives of Darfur armed movements in implementation of the peace agreement signed in Juba, South Sudan, in October 2020.

Both maintained a neutral stance in the fighting which erupted in April 15 between the SAF and RSF and involved in efforts seeking to end it.

Also they regretted their stance in support of al-Burhan coup.

Recently the two men rejected announcement by the leaders of two Darfurian armed movements, Jibril Ibrahim and Arko Minawe, that they will be on the side of SAF in the war. They said the decision taken by Ibrahim and Minawe does not represent Darfur movements reaffirming their previous initial position against the war.
