The number of patients who are living with HIV/AIDS in Sudan has reached 42,000 in 2022, the Sudan’s Minister for Health Haytham Mohamed Ibrahim announced.
Speaking on the occasion of the World AIDS Day 2023, Friday, Ibrahim said the HIV/AIDS patients are suffering lack of access to diagnosis and treatment services while the ongoing war has exasperated their situation.
Though the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS among the population is low (0.1%) in 2022, the disease is still considered one of the health threats in Sudan due to many factors including instability of the population and proximity to countries with high rate of AIDS infections, the Minister said.
AIDS patients are still suffering the disease associated stigma, he added.
The Minister underlined his Ministry’s commitment to provide diagnosis and treatment tools for the patients and take required measures for controlling the disease in realization of the slogan “we will leave no one behind”.
