Sudanese Minister: war has damaged oil sector, rehabilitation needs $5 billion

Sudan has lost about 210,000 barrel of crude oil as a result of destruction of oil depots at the main Khartoum refinery during the current war, said Sudan’s Minister of Energy.

Rehabilitation of the oil sector, which has sustained a heavy blow in the current war, will cost 5 billion dollar, said the Sudan’s Minister of Energy Mohi Eddeen Naeem.

In a statement to the Sudan News Agency, the Minister said the country has lost about 210,000 barrel of crude oil as a result of destruction of oil depots at the main Khartoum refinery during the current war.

He said considerable amounts of oil products in the Khartoum refinery, which used to provide 40 percent of the country’s needs before the war, were lost.

The war has also led to a decrease in the country’s oil production as the country lost about 7 million barrels of crude oil, the Minister said.

The war has also inflicted damage on the oil installations, electrical stations, oil fields, buildings …etc. Also, the sector properties such as cars, furniture, computers, cables and spare parts have been looted, the Minister said.
