The leading figure in the Sudanese civil democratic coalition ‘Taqaddum’, Khalid Omer Yousif, affirmed that the group will keep urging the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to honour its commitments concerning protection of civilians, enabling unimpeded humanitarian access to war-affected areas and how to end the war as has been stipulated in the Addis Ababa Declaration.

The Declaration was signed by the two sides last January in the Ethiopian caital Addis Ababa.

Yousif told reporters on Sunday, in a  briefing he organised in the Ugandan capital Kampala, that the army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan did not specify any time or place for a meeting proposed by Taqaddum which has made its best to contact both warring parties on the need for protecting the civilians and ending the war.

He considered this attitude an evidence that the army is not willing to hold a meeting with the group and  continued in committing violations against civilians.

Yousif underlined importance of Taqaddum’s workshops on  transitional justice and reform of the regular forces sector currently taking place in Entebbe, Uganda.

According to him the army and RSF have become two parallel forces after eruption of war between them therefore it is inappropriate to speak about dissolving the RSF or integerating it into the army. Similarly the RSF will not be a substitute for the army, Yousif added.

He said the issue has become more complicated and it should  be solved through dialogue on proposed methods for reforming the security and military sector.
