The Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has laid out four conditions for accepting the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres appeal to the warring parties to cease hostilities in Ramadan.
The Ministry said in a statement on Friday that it welcomed Guterres proposal but it would like to remind that the terrorist militia (Rapid Support Forces) have exploited the past truces to provide weapons, strengthen its military position and occupy extra civilian sites including homes, hospitals, mosques and churchs.
“The past truces have exasperated humanitarian crisis in the Sudan and exploited by the “militia” to commit the most heinous attrocities and abuses”, the statement added.
The Ministry said four objective conditions should be met in order for the UN Secretary General’s call to be fruitful:
First: The militia must withdraw from civilian areas, including homes, public facilities and infrastructure in line with its obligations in the Saudi-US sponsored Jeddah Forum.
Second: The militia must withdraw from al-Gezira and Sennar states and any other cities they occupied after the May 11th, 2023 Declaration of Humanitarian Principles.
Third: The militia must stop the atrocities and violations of the International Humanitarian Law and human rights it perpetrates in the states of Darfur, Gezira, Sinnar, White Nile and Kordofan.
Fourth: The militia must return the looted public and private properties and perpetrators should be held accountable.
