The United States Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, pledged to exert more efforts towards pressuring the warring parties in Sudan to end the conflict that erupted since last April between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces.

Perriello announced, in a meeting he held with a number of Sudanese civil society organizations, political activists and journalists in the Ugandan capital Kampala on Monday, that he will travel to the Middle East and African countries to hold intensive meetings with partners engaged in solving the Sudanese crisis.

The US diplomat underlined Washington’s commitment to bring an end to the conflict in Sudan and halt its further spread.

He said that appointment of a special envoy by Joe Biden administration demonstrates  importance of the Sudan issue to the White House which in turn will be echoed by

 other international entities.

He stressed that urgent action is needed to address the war-triggered humanitarian needs in Sudan including hunger crisis.

The United States government has contributed a billion dollar in humanitarian aid, Perriello said, adding that his office will work around the clock and his actions will reflect his seriousness towards the Sudan issue.

Perriello was appointed  by the U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken last month.

He previously served as the U.S. Special Envoy for the Great Lakes and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Special Representative for the second Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review, and as a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia.

Blinken said the role of Perriello is “to lead U.S. efforts to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan, including ending the hostilities, ensuring unhindered humanitarian access, and supporting the Sudanese people’s aspirations for freedom, peace, and justice.”
