At least 25 civilians have been killed and 100 injured in clashes between the SAF and RSF in the western neighbourhoods of al-Fasher, capital of North Darfur during the past two days, the pro-democracy Emergency Lawyers said.
For many days, the city is witnessing fighting in two fronts; the first between the RSF and Darfur’s Armed Movements in the western part of the city Sudan in Mileet city north of al-Fasher, and the second between the SAF and RSF inside al-Fasher.
Escalating hostilities in al-Fasher has caused a deep alarm among the United Nations and international humanitarian agencies as the city is hosting hundreds of thousands displaced people and has always been a critical humanitarian hub.
“Dozens of injured have arrived to the hospital today,” a medical source at el-Fasher Southern Hospital told AFP.
The source, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal, said the hospital suffers shortage of medics and blood.
Eyewitnesses told AFP that the clashes have forced hundreds to flee Abu Shouk camp for displaced people after the fighting reached the camp.
The RSF is currently controlled Darfur’s five states except for al-Fasher which host the Darfur Armed Movements.
The Movements formally renounced neutrality and declared war on the RSF alongside the SAF in rejection of abuses and provocations committed by the paramilitary in al-Fasher.
