Sudan reports 11,000 cholera cases and 9,000 dengue cases

The Sudanese Ministy for Health said its interventions have helped in decreasing epidemics infection rate.

A total of nearly 11,000 cholera cases were reported in Sudan including 325 deaths, the Sudanese Minister for Health Haytham Mohamed Ibrahim said.

He revealed that the cases of dengue fever in the country reached 9,000 including 66 deaths.

The spread of these epidemics was fueled by the ongoing war which exacerbated the already weak health system.

The Minister said his ministry’s urgent interventions have helped in decreasing the epidemics infection rate.

He said there is stable medicines supply where urgent medicines valued 19 billion Sudanese pounds were imported addition to 4,000 tons of life-saving medicines for the states.

The Minister said vaccines, kidney medicines and essential foods for children were sent to Darfur’s five states.

Haytham indicated that polio vaccination campaigns will start next week in the Red Sea State along with completing anti-measles and German measles vaccination in the states of Blue Nile, Sinnar and Darfur region.
