Saudi FM urges Sudan’s rival generals to stop fighting
The Saudi FM stressed, in phone calls with leaders of Sudan army and RSF, the need to stop the war to protect Sudan’s state institutions and ensure the country’s safety.

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan discussed the latest developments in Sudan in phone calls with chairman of the Sovereignty Council cum Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and leader of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti”.
Since May 2023, Saudi Arabia and the United States are sponsoring negotiations between the belligerents aiming at halting the war in Sudan.
The Saudi Foreign Minister stressed during the separate phone calls the importance of working to protect Sudan and its people from repercussions of the war including further destruction and worsening of the dire humanitarian situations, Saudi news agency reported.
Farhan underscored the need for giving priority to the interests of the Sudanese people and stopping the fighting to protect Sudan’s state institutions and ensure the country’s safety.
The US Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, expected Jeddah talks to resume in 18 April and later on it is hoped to resume early this month.
