Assistant of the Sudanese army’s chief, Yasir al-Atta, said on Saturday Russia had asked for a fueling station on the Red Sea in exchange for weapons and ammunition affirming that agreements would be signed soon.

The two countries signed a naval base deal under former President Omar Al-Bashir, but army leaders later said that plan was under review and it never materialized.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov visited Sudan in April 29.

Al-Atta announced head of the coup Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan will cancel the Constitutional Charter which was signed after success of December Revolution to guide Sudan through a transitional period to a civilian democratic rule.

Al-Burhan is expected to announce appointment of an independent prime minister who will form a technocratic government and a new constitution will be written for this government, he said.

Al-Atta said the Rapid Support Forces and its allied politicians forced the army to either fight or surrender and “our option is to fight whether al-Fashir falls or not”.

He accused France of seeking to establish a national home for the Arab diaspora in Darfur at the expense of its original population.
