Sudan army, RSF added to UN blacklist for violations against children
Covering some 20 conflict zones worldwide, the UN annual report includes the killing, injuring, recruitment, kidnapping and sexual violence against children.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were included in the United Nations blacklist for violating the rights of children in war, according to a report by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres quoted by international news agencies.
The war between the SAF and RSF, started in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced millions 55% of them are children under 18 years old and left 18 million people in acute hunger, with 3.6 million children acutely malnourished.
The SAf was listed in the UN annual “Children in Armed Conflict” report for the killing and maiming of children and for attacks on schools and hospitals.
The RSF was listed for recruiting children and for “rape and other forms of sexual violence against children,” as well as attacks on schools and hospitals.
“Sudan witnessed a staggering 480 percent increase in grave violations against children from 2022 to 2023”, said the UN report which is due to be published on Thursday.
The U.N. verified 1,721 violations in Sudan including the killing of 480 and maiming of 764, most during crossfire between the SAF and RSF. It also verfied 85 attacks on schools and hospitals.
Sexual violence was verified against 114 girls in Sudan, of which the RSF was responsible for 57 cases, the UN said.
