The Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked Aseer village of al-Gezira State during the Friday Muslim prayer killing 15 and injured dozens in a new massacre, eyewitnesses said.
The RSF had entered the village first for looting but it was repelled by the village’s youth killing some of the attackers, the eyewitnesses said, explaining that the force came again same day for revenge.
Aseer is the last populated village in the area as the other neighbouring villages witnessed large-scale displacement in fear of the paramilitary assaults.
Since it captured al-Gezira State in December 2023, the RSF became notorious for attacking the State’s unarmed villages committing brutal crimes of killing, looting, torturing and forcing people out of their homes.
On 5 June, the RSF attacked Wad al-Noora village killing nearly 200 in a heinous crime condemned by many including the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
