Cholera cases in Sudan increase, 48 deaths confirmed 

Cholera has spread in five Sudanese states including Kasala and Gedaref in the east part of the country, al-Gezira and Khartoum in centeral Sudan and Nahr al-Neel (River Nile) in the North.

Some 102 new cases of cholera have been reported in Sudan increasing the total to 1223, the federal Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.

Five new deaths were registered putting mortality cases at 48.

The Ministry said the disease spread in five Sudanese states including Kasala and Gedaref in the east part of the country, al-Gezira and Khartoum in the center and Nahr al-Neel (River Nile) in the northern part.

Quarantines have been established in these states, still extra such facilities is needed in Kasala, Gedaref and Nahr al-Neel, the Ministry added.

The new outbreak of cholera in Sudan came as a result of deteriorated health system in the country which has been suffering a war and repercussions of natural disasters as the current rain season is resulting in floods and contaminated drinking water
