The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced new humanitarian initiatives in Chad and a contribution of $ 10.25 millions to the United Nations for supporting the Sudanese women who fled their conflict-stricken country-to Chad.

According to the UAE official news agency, the initiatives were announced during a visit to Chad by the UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Lana Nusseibeh, last Friday.

Nusseibeh and her accompanying delegation met with the Sudanese women refugees there, leaders of Sudanese Civil society organisations and the UN agencies engaged in humanitarian work.

The delegation also met with the Minister Plenipotentiary at Chadian Foreign Ministry, Fatima al-Jinaih, and Governor of Ouaddai State, Bashar Suleiman.

The delegation was briefed on challenges concerning aid delivery in the Sudan’s most war- stricken regions and conducted inspection visits to some facilities responsible for offering humanitarian services.

The donation of $ 10.25 millions will be offered to the UN agencies concerned with women welfare including the World Health Organization, ANCHOR and the UN Population Fund.

Nusseibeh said her visit to Chad and donation to the UN agencies reflect the UAE established commitment to support the women affected by the Sudan crisis. “We are here to listen directly to the affected women and make sure that the assistance offered meets their needs.”

Chad hosts 630.752 Sudanese refugees, the largest number of refugees fleeing the country since eruption of war in April 2023, with women and children represent 89% of them.
