The Sudanese Army’s Military Intelligence in Shandi town, Nahr al-Neel State, has detained, since 2nd October, displaced Christians who fled from Khartoum Bahri in search of safety, the Sudanese Christian Youth Union said.

The Union said the detainees hailed from Nuba Mountains.

The detainees comprised 25 women, 54 children and 16 men, all followers of al-Izba Church in Bahri, explained the Union president Osama Saeed Musa Koudi in a statement on Friday.

The detainees do live in difficult humanitarian situations inside detention areas of the Sudanese military intelligence while their families, including elders and sick, gather at the yard of the Messiah Church in Shandi, north Sudan, the statement said.

The Union condemned what it described as targeting people on religious and identity basis, in contradiction with the international conventions and charters.

It said Nahr al-Neel authorities, security and intelligence organs would be accountable for the detainees safety calling for their immediate release.
