Khartoum: Altaghyeer
Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission’s bureaucratic barriers and delays have prevented 7 million more Sudanese people from receiving emergency food and medicine, US Special Envoy to Sudan Tom Perriello said.
Perriello wrote in his official acount on X platform that the Commission “must do more to facilitate UN and other humanitarian actors’ access to all parts of Sudan, including ensuring that Adré border crossing remains open.”
The ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has led to displacement of millions of civilians and disrupted their livelihoods leaving more than 25 million people vulnerable to acute hunger.
Yet the two warring parties are impeding humanitarian access.
“Starvation cannot be a weapon of war”, Perriello said.
