United States Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, arrived at Sudan’s temporary administrative capital, Port Sudan, on Monday in a one-day official visit to the country, diplomatic sources said.

Perriello will meet head of the coup Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Foreign Minister Ali Yousif, Humanitarian Commissioner, and Darfur Governor, Mini Minawe besides a number of public and official leaders, the American al-Hurra website said.

According to Sudan’s Foreign Ministry, the US diplomat was initially planned to arrive at Port Sudan yesterday, Sunday, to discuss military developments in the country and his government’s diplomatic efforts to dissolve the crisis in Sudan. But the visit was postponed for further preparations, al-Hurra reported.

Perriello visit came same day the United Kingdom is proposing a resolution in the UN Security Council to push the warring parties in Sudan to remove obstacles before humanitarian access.

Perriello has criticized the Sudan status quo government last month for blocking or delaying 90% of the emergency relief shipments while 6.5 million people urgently need food in Sudan to survive, and 25 million overall need emergency humanitarian assistance due to the 18 month war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
