At least 69 were reported killed under the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) siege of Wad Ashaib village in centeral Sudan’s al-Gezira State, said al-Gezira Congress Platform on Wednesday.

At least 42 of the victims were shot dead by the RSF on Tuesday eveming and Wednesday morning and 27 have lost their lives under the RSF siege which cut them off from essential supplies including food, drinking water and medical care, the Congress said.

Since almost one month, the RSF has been launching series of attacks on al-Gezira residents in retaliation for the defection of its top leader in the State, Abu Aagla Kaikl, who joined the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) against the paramilitary.

The attacks have resulted in the death of hundreds, displacement of thousands and looting amid reports of sexual crimes including gang rape.

The RSF stormed Wad Ashaib last Thursday terrorising the residents and imposing a strict blockade on the village.

At present, the RSF controls the entire al-Gezira State except for al-Managil town and its neighbouring areas up to the borders of Sinnar State to the south.

Since April 2023, the Sudan is engulfed in war between the SAF and RSF which led to killing of hundreds of thousands of civilians, displacement of millions and triggered the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
