At least 7 people were killed and unidentified number of others injured when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) arbitrary fired shells at the main market of Abu Shouk camp for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in North Darfur State, activists in the State said on Saturday.

Al-Fashir, capital of North Darfur State, has been under RSF siege since May this year isolating it and tremendously affecting services and flow of medical supplies into the city.

“In continuation of its crimes and violations against the citizens, the RSF fired more than ten shells at Abu Shouk camp’s market place resulting in huge loses in lives and properties” said the Camp’s Emergency Response Room, adding that it managed to count 7 deaths and a number of injured people.

Fighting continues in North Darfur between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allied Darfur Armed Struggle Movements on the one hand and the RSF and its allied militias on the other hand despite a resolution by the UN Security Council in June 2024 calling for cessation of hostilities and protection of civilians and vital services.

Meanwhile, four people were killed and six injured on Sunday when the RSF attacked al-Sayal market near al-Gitaina town of the White Nile State, south of Khartoum State.

Al-Sayal area received thousands of displaced people who fled their villages near al-Gitaina after the SAF withdrawal from the town last December.
