Khartoum: Altaghyeer

More than 60 Sudanese women journalists living in the States of Khartoum, al-Gezira and Darfur are facing direct life-threatening situation because of the ongoing armed clashes, the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate said.

In a statement on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25), the Syndicate described the situation of the Sudanese women under the current war as doubly reflecting the UN statistics that 86% of women in the world are living in countries without solid legal protection.

Sudanese women, particularly journalists, are facing tough humanitarian challenges under the ongoing war, the Syndicate said, lamenting that the conflict obstructs access to accurate statistics on violations against women a matter that will allow impunity for perpetrators and add to the victims suffering.

The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate called on women to document the violations assuring them that “You are not alone” and stressing the need for refusing all sorts of stigmatisation, silencing and impunity.

In line with the slogan of the Day this year “Unite to End Violence against Women”, the Syndicate emphasized its commitment to support victims of violence, promote awareness raising, monitoring and advocating efforts to realise a society free of violence against women and girls.
