State of Emergency extended in north Sudan city following drone attacks
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Ground-based anti-aircraft systems have succeeded in thwarting drone attacks targeted Atbara airport, 267 kilometres north of Khartoum, Nahr al-Neel State’s Security Committee announced on Sunday.

State of Emergency has been extended in Atabra city, north Sudan, for a month in the wake of new series of drone attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Drone attacks targeted on Saturday night and Sunday dawn, the airport in Atbara, 267 kilometres north of Khartoum, but the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Ground-based anti-aircraft systems have succeeded in thwarting them, Nahr al-Neel (River Nile) State’s Security Committee announced on Sunday.
The city has recently witnessed a wave of drone attacks the last of which occured on Wednesday when at least two drones taregetted the SAF’s Artillery Corps.
Since November 18, many drone attacks have targeted Atbara airport which is being rehabilitated to serve as international airport.
The State’s Security Committee said the drones are long range launched from a distance of more than 300 kilometres.
The attacks came within the escalating fighting between SAF and the paramilitary RSF which erupted in April 2023 and has recently witnessed increased use of drones warfare.
