Egyptian Foreign Minister in first visit to Sudan since start of conflict
The Egyptian FM visited Sudan for the first time since eruption of the Sudan’s conflict on 15 April 2023 to affirm Egypt’s solidarity with Sudan and its efforts to facilitate resumption of its activities within the African Union.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdel Aaty, has paid an official visit to Sudan, the first by an Egyptian FM since eruption of the Sudan’s conflict on 15 April 2023.
The Minister went Port Sudan on Tuesday to convey a message from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The visit came to express Egypt’s sincere solidarity with Sudan and to consolidate the deep fraternal ties between the peoples of the two countries, the statement said.
The Egyptian minister affirmed his country’s active involvement in regional and international efforts to bring stability in Sudan and safeguard its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity indicating Egypt’s efforts to facilitate resumption of Sudan activities within the African Union.
In a meeting with Ali Yousif, his Sudanese counterpart, the Egyptian FM reiterated his country’s unwavering support for Sudan’s leadership and people stressing his country’s efforts to alleviate the hardships facing the people in Sudan.
He also reviewed Egypt’s stance in support of an immediate ceasefire and acceleration of delivery of humanitarian aid, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with UN initiatives, agencies and international relief organizations.
Both sides have been keen to elaborate discussions on the issue of water security as they share identical viewpoint, as downstream Nile Basin countries.
They agreed to continue close coordination to safeguard water security for both Egypt and Sudan.
